NM community enacts water restrictions
August 27, 2009
LAS VEGAS, N.M. (AP) – Las Vegas residents are being asked to cut back on their watering.
The northern New Mexico community has enacted Stage 2 restrictions, which limit residents with even-numbered addresses to watering their lawns on Mondays and those with odd-numbered addresses to watering on Tuesdays.
The restrictions also specify the time of day residents can water.
The city enacted the restrictions in response to dropping reservoir levels. The reservoirs are currently at 72 percent of capacity.
Utilities director Ken Garcia is encouraging residents to report violations of the city’s water-use ordinance. Violators will be cited, with the first citation being a warning and subsequent ones involving fines.
