Voters consider 4 local bond proposals

November 3, 2009

Today is Election Day and the polls are now open as local voters will cast their ballots on 11 state constitutional amendments and 4 local bond proposals.

If approved, the 4 local proposals would total about $60 million and add 4.5 cents to the local tax rate.

Bond Proposal One would set aside $43 million to repair Lubbock streets, including a mile-and-a-half stretch of 34th Street.

Proposal Two would spend $7.5 million for new firefighting equipment including new fire stations on Lubbock’s south side.

Proposal Three would spend $1.2 million on the installation of water recreation facilities in the city’s parks, and Proposal Four would spend $9 million to build soccer field and related support facilities in Southwest Lubbock.

Among the 11 state constitutional amendments are changes to the Texas property tax system, limits on the use of imminent domain, and the creation of a half-billion dollar fund to support emerging research universities including Texas Tech.

Polls will be open until 7pm this evening and Lubbock voters will be able to vote at any available polling location under the County’s “Super-Precint” system.

You will need your voter registration card or other identification to cast your ballot.
