Punishment phase begins for Polygamist

ELDORADO – The trial for 38 year-old Raymond Jessop continues today as the jury begins the task of deciding his punishment.
Jessop was convicted last week with sexually assaulting a child. His religious marriage to a 16 year-old girl resulted in her giving birth to his child.
Jessop is also accused of having eight other wives and faces a separate trial on a bigamy charge. He faces up to 20-years in prison for his current conviction.
Jessop’s trial is the first of 11 other members of the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints who also face indictments.
The trials are the culmination of events that began with a raid on the FLDS Yearning For Zion Ranch in April of 2008.
