TX residents criticize proposed Bush library

November 11, 2009

UNIVERSITY PARK, Texas (AP) – Some homeowners who live near where George W. Bush’s presidential library would be built are critical of a traffic study commissioned by the Bush Foundation.

The Dallas Morning News reports University Park residents Tuesday night packed City Hall for a meeting on two unrelated matters, the library and a proposal to redevelop part of Snider Plaza.

The Bush Foundation wants University Park to rezone 15 acres of undeveloped land for the library which isn’t scheduled to open until 2013. A study commissioned by the Foundation concluded that the existing transportation system can adequately accommodate the library at Southern Methodist University.

Some wondered if the traffic study considered all options for routing traffic away from residential areas.

Many of the speakers said the current library plan will create a tourist invasion.

Another planning commission meeting is set for next month.
