Ex-state police officer bound over for trial

November 17, 2009

SANTA FE, N.M. (AP) – A Santa Fe judge has determined former state police officer Alfred Lovato should stand trial in the death of a pedestrian who was struck and killed as he crossed a street.

Lovato was in a passenger in a vehicle driven by Carlos Fierro, who was sentenced last week to seven years in prison for vehicular homicide in the same case.

William Tenorio of San Felipe Pueblo died last November.

Lovato has been charged with vehicular homicide and leaving the scene of a fatal accident, the same counts as Fierro.

At the time of Tenorio’s death, Lovato was an off-duty member of Gov. Bill Richardson’s security detail.
