Brownfield jail escapee back in custody
December 14, 2009
A Brownfield man is back in custody after escaping from jail Saturday.
22 year-old Raymond Rodriguez Jr. was arrested without incident about 4:30pm Sunday at a house in Brownfield after police received a tip he was staying with a friend, according to Terry County Sheriff Larry Gilbreath quoted in today’s Lubbock Avalanche Journal newspaper.
Rodriguez, who had been in the jail since July on a charge of armed robbery, escaped about 12:30pm Saturday.
Gilbreath said Rodriguez was alone in the jail’s library when he climbed through an unsecured air conditioning vent, crawled through the ceiling, into an adjacent office then threw an oak chair through a window and ran out of the building.
Gilbreath said Rodriguez will face a third degree felony charge for escape. The friend authorities suspect helped hide Rodriguez could be charged with hindering apprehension.
