Kemah to restore old railroad depot

KEMAH, Texas (AP) – The southeast Texas city of Kemah plans to restore its old railroad depot.
The depot had been used as a storage shed in the backyard of a resident in the nearby town of Clear Lake Shores for years, where it survived a storm surge from Hurricane Ike in 2008. The resident sold it to the city last summer for $7,500.
The Galveston County Daily News reports city officials have not decided what the restored 12-by-25-foot depot will house.
Dyana Babik, Kemah Historical Society secretary, says the city might use the building for offices or a small gallery displaying historic photos of Kemah.
Babik says the depot probably was built in the late 1930s.
The mayor says contractors will finish the restoration project by December.
